Stuff from last week

  • heated discussion (more than thirty posts!) over what’s allowed to do with postings to a public mailing list (the FrameMaker discussion list), after I asked quite innocently whether it would be worthwhile to add the list to gmane.org. Turns out the list is already archived at mail-archive.com. Much ado about nothing.
  • We had a power cut and my main server (www, file, mail, dhcp, etc.) died a horrible death. Yeah, the one serving these pages. Had to fall back on a previous configuration for the time being.

SMS sent by the tool that's monitoring the UPSWe had a one-hour powercut last Wednesday (25th of January) which lasted for more than one hour. I was at work, and Florence was with the kids, lighting candles and trying to make a fire because even though we have gas heating, it still requires electricity for the pilot light and the pumps to work.

Das ist ein typisches Zeichen fuer eine “maison de la presse”, d.h. Zeitungskioske, -geschaefte in Frankreich. Wir waren also in Frankreich.
